Between 2019 and 2024, Hongyang and I lived in Shanghai. This book gathers the everyday life we shared with our friends. Most of the conversations have since faded. What remains, strangely clear, is the sound of everyone’s laughter.
The joys were small and measured, fitted in between coursework, expectations, and a future no one could see clearly. Somewhere in the middle there was a pandemic. Life paused for a while, then carried on much as before, except that we gathered more often. Then came graduation. Some stayed, some left.
